Can I Make a Living With Digital Marketing?
Can I make a living with digital marketing by crashing through the ceiling—Literally
I wish I could say this was a metaphor.
But no, I actually fell through the ceiling.

One minute, I was crawling through the attic like some sort of ninja, looking for a box of who-knows-what. The next, I was free-falling like a contestant on a dodgy game show—except there was no prize at the end, just my backside hitting the living room floor with the grace of a sack of potatoes.
I lay there, surrounded by bits of ceiling, blinking up at the gaping hole I’d just created, trying to piece together what had just happened.

Then I heard it—the sharp intake of breath. My wife stood there, eyes wide, torn between horror and the urge to burst out laughing. I could almost hear the calculations running through her head: Do I check if he’s okay first, or do I grab my phone and record this for future blackmail?
Safe to say, this wasn’t my finest hour.
But it taught me a valuable lesson—one that applies to more than just home repairs.
Lesson #1: Don’t Assume You Know What You’re Doing
I thought the attic floor was solid. It wasn’t.
I assumed I could just plod along without thinking about where I was stepping. Turns out, there’s a difference between the beams (which hold your weight) and the plasterboard (which does not).
And that’s where most people go wrong when they first dip their toes into the online world.

They assume it’s easy.
They think they can just jump in, do a bit of this, a bit of that, and boom—job done.
Spoiler alert: That’s not how it works.
Lesson #2: If You Don’t Have a Plan, You’ll End Up Flat on Your Back
When I climbed up into that attic, I had no strategy. I was winging it, assuming everything would be fine.
Big mistake.

And that’s exactly what happens to folks who decide to “give this online thing a go” without any real strategy. They step into it blindly, assuming they’ll just figure it out as they go along. Then reality smacks them in the face—hard. They waste time, energy, and end up right back where they started… but worse, because now they’re frustrated, exhausted, and feeling like they’ve been scammed.
If you’ve ever felt like that, you’re not alone. I was stuck in that cycle for years. Buying stuff I didn’t need, chasing the next big thing, always looking for a shortcut.
Lesson #3: Retirement Isn’t About Sitting Still
Here’s the thing—most people think retirement means kicking back, putting your feet up, and watching the world go by.
Rubbish.
If you’re anything like me, you still want to feel alive. You want to do something that challenges you, excites you, and—let’s be honest—pays for the occasional cruise to the Caribbean.

That’s why building something online is perfect. It keeps your mind sharp, gives you a sense of purpose, and—if done right—makes life a heck of a lot more comfortable.
But only if you do it properly.
You wouldn’t climb into an attic without checking where you’re stepping, right? (Well, I might… but let’s learn from my mistakes, shall we?)
Same goes for building something online. You need to know what you’re doing. Otherwise, you’re just setting yourself up for a painful fall.
So, What’s the Solution?
Simple—you need guidance. A solid blueprint. A way to sidestep all the pitfalls that leave most people stuck, frustrated, and ready to throw in the towel.
That’s exactly what I want to give you.
I’ve put together five free videos that lay it all out for you—step by step. No fluff. No nonsense. Just the stuff that actually works.
So, if you’re ready to build something solid instead of falling through the floorboards, drop the word CEILING in the comments, and I’ll send you the details.
Unless, of course, you prefer learning the hard way… in which case, might I suggest reinforcing your attic first?
